#ALIENSKIN EXPOSURE NOISE REDUCTION HOW TO#
Here’s how to do it (I will assume you are experienced in raw file processing and comfortable using layers and masks in Photoshop):ġ. The same area as above, with hot pixels reduced in post-processing. LENR was off and hot pixels were not removed in post-processing. You just have to plan ahead for it while you’re shooting.Ī 640 x 200-pixel area from stack of ten 4-minute exposures, shown here at 100% scale. So after some research and some experimenting, I’ve come up with a way to remove nearly all the hot pixels at once, in Photoshop, that is easy and effective. The spot healing brush in Photoshop removes hot pixels very nicely, but if your image contains several hundred to a thousand or more hot pixels, removing them one-by-one is tiresome, and you’re bound to miss some, or just give up in frustration. You have to take the noise and work with it in post-processing. You can’t have lengthy pauses while your camera captures dark frames, or your star trails will end up looking like Morse Code. LENR is great, but it’s not practical if your plan is to build an image of star trails from a series of 10 or 20 exposures, each 4 or 5 minutes long. Two 8-minute exposures, the first with LENR off, the second with it on. This bit of magic is called Long Exposure Noise Reduction (LENR). They shoot another dark frame after the image exposure, just to capture the hot pixels, then they somehow “subtract” the hot pixels from the first image, and give you a clean, noise-free picture. I know how to do all this but I am looking for something more straightforward. Many digital cameras have a very effective built-in feature for removing “hot pixel” noise from long exposures.

So using one software for DAM, export to another one for RAF conversion, save in PSD an bring it back to another software the exporting to another for effects, saving in TIFF an then jpg, etc is too much complicated for me. I am looking for a Jack of all trade solution where I can do 95% of my workflow in the same software. I think it is good enough but certainly want to find something equivalent.ĥ. I am a landscape photographer so and I think LR could be a bit better on RAF handling but this is not the main reason why I am looking for LR alternatives. It is not the end of the world but then again I do not need PS and even though LR is overall good, I just don't like pictures management.Just personal taste.Ĥ. Same comment about CAN$ conversion, Adobe CC does not cost 9.99$ for me but 16$ per month so 195$ per year.

Affinity Photo is doing what I needed from Photoshop and I have no need to upgrade to the next version anytime soon. I already have the excellent Affinity Photo that I paid 35$ so I have no need to pay for Photoshop. C1 is too expensive for me, photography is just a hobby and I can't justify paying 300$ for this considering that for me it is converted in CAN$ which means 395$ + 15% taxesģ.

ON1 and Alien Skin is more in line of what I am looking for for this.Ģ. I do not like pictures management and cataloging of LR. So I am no sure how the reasons why I am looking for Adobe CC and C1 alternatives can affect the discussion but the reasons are mainly those ones:ġ.

I was just asking if anybody around here is using it and discuss results on the quality of conversion and overall processing capabilities like highlights and shadow recovery to see if it is worthwhile trying it.

I ran a search on this forum and other site and Google and I find very very little information on Alien Skin Exposure x2 and not at all on his X-trans handling.
